Corcovado National Park: This park, considered by National Geographic as the world’s third most important national park in quantity of biodiversity, offers 65% of the total Costa Rican wildlife. You could encounter animals such as: monkeys, snakes, sloths, coaties, agouties, more than 800 different species of birds including the red macaw, and many more. (7 AM to 5 PM). 

Snorkeling or Diving at Caño Island: This is the second best spot in Costa Rica, after Coco Island, with the best visibility for snorkeling or diving about 20 meters (65 feet), housing seemingly infinite species of fish, turtles, manta rays, dolphins and friendly reef sharks.

Horseback tour to Nauyaca Waterfall: You can’t miss this wonderful trip! This is a route around the waterfall and mountains of the Río Barucito. This marvelous waterfall is the second largest of the región and is one of its greatest attractions, not only for its natural beauty, which brings unforgettable moments, but also for the different activities available such as climbing, swimming, and birdwatching. (Transport is optional and not included in the tour price.) Tour lasts from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. 

Whale and Dolphin Watching: The whale and dolphin tour is one of the most acclaimed by tourists. There’s no guarantee you’ll get to see whales however the tour is very unique and special. (Transport is optional and not included in the price of the tour). 

Kayak Tours – Waves and Caverns: There are about 20 caverns along the coast of Parque Marino Ballena and Playa Ventanas. Let the adrenaline surge through your veins while kayaking across the waves, and feel the power of the sea suring the waves of Playa Ventanas. During the tour you’ll be accomanied by experienced guides. (Hours according to the tides)- Tour lasts 5 hours.

Flight of the Tucán- Canopy Tour: Incredible experience, in contact with the flora and fauna that only Hacienda Barú offers. While walking through the jungle, accompanied by nature guides, they’ll explain all there is to know about the wildlife of the region. The tour beings in the treetops and is for novices. Hours: 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. (3 hrs. per tour) 

Osa Canopy Tour: There are 9 cables, 11 platforms, 2 repelling stations, 2 suspension bridges and an amazing “Tarzan Swing” For the true adventurers!  There’s a waterfall with 3 streams to repel down, the largest being 250m tall. 

Kayak in the Mangroves: Share the adventure in this natural environment with a grand, beautiful scenery. The mangrove swamp (the only plant which can live in saltwater and freshwater) houses one of the riches ecosystems you can encounter with a great variety of birds, monkeys, reptiles, snakes and many more… (Hours are based on the tides)

4-hour Birdwatching Tour: Enjoy the most exciting experience birdwatching in the morning or in the afternoon. The area offers 2 spectacular places for this tour- Hacienda Barú with 2 tour options, and Oro Verde.  

Hiking: There are many hiking options in the area. The most popular guided hikes are offered in the woods of Hacienda Barú Wildlife Refuge. They also offer access for self-guided hikes.  

Surf Classes: Face the challenge of the sea with this wonderful sport. The classes are offered by local, experienced surfers who teach both their passion and technique. 2 hours.

Rafting Tour: The region offers two rafting options during the green season, the Rio Guabo (tributary of the Barú) and the Rio Coto Brus. During the dry season, the Rio Savegre is a good option.

Dominical is a great surfing town. It’s worth a visit to go to the flea market or grab a bite to eat by the beach. For those interested in lessons, Rama Surf is located just north of Uvita. Reservations required. +506-8703 3152.

Spend a day or a few hours sliding down a waterfall and swim hole. Go early to avoid the crowds. Lovely restaurant at the top. $2/per person or 1000 colones. Water shoes recommended.
